Farmingdale, NY The Commercial-Industrial Brokers Society of Long Island (CIBS) recognized the achievements of its members April 15 at the annual Long Island Real Estate Black Tie Dinner, at Carlyle on the Green.

Frank Frizalone, SIOR, of Cushman & Wakefield received the Most Ingenious Deal of the Year award for his role in a deal that spanned five years and two generations. Jack O'Connor of Newmark Knight Frank received the Distinguished Leadership award for his professional contributions over nearly four decades.

Frizalone, executive director of Cushman & Wakefield's National Industrial Services Group, was recognized for brokering the five-year, $32 million lease buy-out by Sysco Corp. of the former 525,000 s/f A&P distribution center in Central Islip following the death last year of the buyer's attorney, Myron Kanter, in the midst of negotiations. Kanter's son, Marc Kanter, stepped in for his father and closed the deal in April. David Leno of Ruskin Moscou Faltischek law firm represented the seller.

Jeff Schwartzberg, SIOR, president of CIBS, said, "This transaction clearly required great ingenuity, negotiating skills and a keen sense of awareness. Frank overachieved on all three fronts."

O'Connor, a principal with Newmark Knight Frank in Melville, was honored for leadership in a career going back nearly 40 years. O'Connor serves as director of Newmark Knight Frank's National Industrial Practice Group. In addition to other executive positions prior to Newmark Knight Frank, O'Connor also founded his own firm, Island Realty. A trustee at Dowling College, O'Connor is a board member of CIBS, and has served as a director at other Long Island organizations including the Advancement for Commerce & Technology.

Schwartzberg said, "Jack is a wonderfully valuable member of our board of directors and a true professional pillar in the commercial real estate community."
